Aber eins nach dem anderen: Aufschlussreich ist die Geschichte von Klaus Schwabs Vater Eugen Schwab. Geboren in der Nähe von Bern 1899, wuchs er später in Karlsruhe auf. Beruflich trat er in die Fussstapfen seines Vaters Gottfried (Klaus Schwabs Grossvater) und wurde ebenfalls Maschinenbauingenieur. Gleiches sollte er später auch seinem Sohn Klaus raten. Karriere machte Eugen Schwab in den 1930er Jahren in der deutschen Niederlassung der Maschinenbaufirma Escher-Wyss in Ravensburg, wo Schwab während des Zweiten Weltkriegs Zwangsarbeiter beschäftigte.

Vedmore lässt zwar eindeutige Belege vermissen, die bezeugen, dass Schwab wegweisend war, die Geschäfte von Konzernen wie Sulzer und BBC noch stärker auf das Wettrüsten im Zuge des Kalten Krieges auszurichten. Interessant sind seine Beobachtungen aber allemal. Dies auch insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund, dass sowohl Sulzer als auch BBC später das international sanktionierte Apartheid-Regime in Südafrika mit wichtigen Teilen für dessen Urananreicherungsanlage belieferten - bis 1986 produzierte Sulzer erfolgreich Spezialkompressoren für die Urananreicherung des Regimes.
Die Geschäfte von Sulzer und den weiteren Firmen sind zwar längstens bekannt. Doch die Rolle, die der WEF-Gründer dabei spielte, stimmt nachdenklich und gilt es noch genauer zu untersuchen. Gerade weil sich das Weltwirtschaftsforum als prominenter Befürworter der Nichtverbreitung von Atomwaffen und „sauberer“ Atomenergie aufspielt. All das, schreibt Vedmore, macht Klaus Schwab „zu einem schlechten Sprecher für seine erklärte Agenda.
